Starter motor for IC engine

08/13/2008 12:46 AM

sir/madam,

i am working as a design engg. in an automobile company. receantly we procured a engine with auto decompresion system for our new model. while cranking ,this engine draws heavy current as specified in manufacturers manual. due to this heavy current drawn by starter, it fails frequently. please anyone help me by providing international standards for testing starter performance.

thankyou.

Hi

Just the person I want to talk to. In advance, sorry about not addressing your question.

The answer is simple, overall. A small gasoline engine, maybe 200cc charging a battery. Electric propulsion, maybe at each wheel. Why can't car makers see it? Isn't the way to build a car, based only on present technology obvious, or is it just me?

Just a guess from the limited info, but are you sure the auto decompression is working properly? Auto decompression is supposed to reduce the load on the starter until engine reaches near idle speed.

assuming that the auto decompresion is working ???

1) Check the connections Battery to Starter ( solinoid etc.)

2) You could add a SUPER CAP in parallel with the battery. They have very low internal resistance, and should give you voltage stability durring cranking.

3) Check the ignition system. It might be marginal at low voltage durring crankinng.
