MESHANICAL

08/13/2008 1:30 AM

Dear All,

We have CPP connected to cement plant and operating the power plant with air cooled condenser, we are facing the problem of fins cleaning which are getting clogged because of clinker dust and coal dust. The Air Cooled Condenser is provided with high pressure water jet cleaning but is not effective. Can anybody suggest better method of cleaning.

you should make a poositive pressure space around the equimpment by fan with air filtered supply.

you need just positive pressure diffarence of 2in water gage the enviroment to prevent enterance of depposits to the room

Manual scrubbing or mechanical cleaning ,although not very easy, seems to be the only solution for immediate relief.

For a permanent and long lasting solution you can install air jets directed on the fins and supply air by trapping and diverting some of the discharged air from the condenser's fans. Air jet nozzles have to be of very hard material and as the discharged air shall have lot of coal and other type dust, ash etc. same shall work to your advantage in cleaning the fins.

From the field;

I am involved in this type of process and if you already have a solid block of dust on your fins you are in trouble. However if you have the time and patience a lot of low pressure water may get it off. I send my techs out on this type of problem with fin combs a good stool or something else to sit on because it can take many hours to clean one of these neglected units.

Here is the good news if you can not get it clean after your season is over contact me directly and I will help you purchase a condenser that will not be so easy to fowl.

I am also working on a better way to produce cold water for your purpose.

Off subject do you use hot water in the winter?
