Silk Screen Printing for T-Shirts

08/19/2008 11:32 AM

I wanted to know if someone knew a good link to a walk through guide or manual on how to print T shirts with silk screen equipment. I own a little shop and it is very easy to do but I want to learn how to give more effects to the prints.

The common area where we have deffects is when you make the screen: how much time is recommended? and how do you avoid those ghosts! this takes some time on my process, the rework!

Also if someone is interested in printing shirts in Tijuana Mexico and make bussiness we can work something out.

Use a 500W halogen about 16-20" above your screen and expose it for about 15-18 minutes. Put a large clean piece of glass over the screen to hold the transparency flat while you expose the screen and you should not have any ghosting.

Soak the screen for a minute before you wash it out with any pressure

soak it for a minute?? .... hmmm, I will try that... It is very curious how delicate this process is. It can have a lot variation if you skip details like pressure on the screen and offcourse time, but now soak for a minute.... do you know why you have to soak for a minute??

yes.. run water onto the screen for a minute.. both sides... it takes a minute for the previously dry screen emulsion to start loosening up enough to break free under high pressure wash so you don't want or need to stress it right away.

By starting with a low pressure rinse, you reduce the likelihood that you will damage the image by blasting away and saying.. "why isn't this rinsing?"

to much pressure too soon on a freshly exposed image can damage the edges very easily.

yes.. there are many little tricks.. easy when you get them.. can be fun too.
