H.T Cable fault

08/19/2008 11:41 AM

We have a HT cable fault. It is a 11 KV, 3 core, XLPE cable of around 450 meters in length, laid in ground at 750 mm deep. we opened it at both ends. "Y" phase is showing short to ground, when tested with multi meter. Other two phases are OK. We called for cable testing van from our state Electricity Board. They spent whole day, with out any results. They could not locate the fault. They said that cable route shown by us may be wrong. But I was the eye witness to cable laying 10 years back during project stage.

Can any one help me please ? Any aternate methods?

How about using a Hi Pot test. This method has been used for a long time.

Hi D. Laxman Das,

A good cable fault locating instrument can locate your fault. Please contact M/S Aplab India Pune. They can locate the fault with in hours. I have taken their service many times and always they are successful even if you do not know the cable route with the help of cable route locater. you can call for their service. There is no need to excavate whole cable length. The Electricity Board may not have used the correct cable testing instruments or method. Please read the link below.

Dear laxman Das.

Please advice your state electricity board to upgrade their equipments in the cable testing van.

I recommend:

a NEW

Power Cable Fault Locator System

This new system provides everything you need to find cable faults quickly and easily.

Regards.
