Design of High Power RF SP2T Switch

Can anyone help me in designing a RF SP2T Switch which can handle a power of 1200W (CW)and 3600W (Pulse) power in 100-500 MHz frequency range. with an insertion loss of 0.8dB and VSWR: 1.3.

just buy one on Ebay or from one of many makers. The cost to design one, make it and test it are far more than buying a new/used RF switch

Ditto to all the above. RF switches are readily available for a host of mfr's. Google.

Most all should spec their products, as insertion loss.

Well in the commercial broadcast world 1200w is not high power(it is low power) in that frequency range. What is the switch for? switching between two transmitters into a single antenna? Or something else. There are many companies out there with many years of experience with the design and manufacture of RF switches, Delta comes to mind. I would hesitate in designing your own unless you know this field. There are issues like arcing during power transfer(which will pit and corrode your contacts, Safety concerns such as interlocks so that the transmitter that is disconnected from the load(antenna) will not operate into no load). Your frequency range includes the FM broadcast band I would check out some companies products like ERI, Jampro, Delta and the maybe take a look at what some companies like Harris, Broadcast electronics, Continental or Nautel can offer you. Or as someone suggested get a used switch on Ebay(although there is no way to be sure it is in good condition till you get it).

Oh, if you are going to shut down your rigs then switch them then turn them back on you may be able to get away with some home built transfer switch but you would still want to incorporate interlocks that will prevent a transmitter from transmitting power unless it is properly terminated to a load(ie antenna or dummy load).

I am making a lot of assumptions here, are you using 1-7/8" hard line or flex for your transmission line? If so there are a lot of relatively inexpensive switches rated for your power requirements.

Also, if you are wanting to start up a pirate radio station make sure you pick a frequency that has enough spacing between two other commercial broadcasters. It will reduce the chance of some pissed off engineer complaining to the FCC cause you are stomping on his signal.
