Inductive charging batteries

08/27/2008 12:17 PM

Hello all!

You know almost every time I post something here it reminds me that I have a HUGE knowledge base that I can draw on and I remember that i have been researching something that more then likely somebody here could just answer off the cuff!

I am currently researching using inductive charging for one of our new products. But I am having a hard time finding any solid information on how it all works. I think that its basically an air core transformer. But can I just design it like that with the primary on the base and the secondary in the unit? what shape or type of coil will work best? etc...

I may have mentioned before that I am NOT a full fledge EE. I just play one on TV. But I catch on pretty fast so if anyone could point me to some good info on this or if they have any experience with it please post!

Thanks again!

Sort of like the electric toothbrushs with the recharging stand! I'll have a dig around and see if I can find out some stuff for you!

Google what GM/Delphi used for their EV1.

Was quite expensive (relative to 117VAC outlet)

Made opportunity charging difficult.

Good luck!

If you really want to understand the topic I suggest this course at MIT:
