Understanding Electronic Components

09/27/2006 2:12 AM

i shall be grateful if some one please help me understand schematic diagrams and sumbols of the componets. (websites or links would be ok)

whats the difference between a schematic diagram and a circuit diagram?

thanks

Try www.google.com and type in electrical and electonic symbols, hit search button and click on each link that appears.

Hope that helps.

a circuit diagram and a schematic diagram are one and the same.

They are a visual description of how all the parts are connected and they use standard component symbols.

this is a start.

Schematic diagram gives the big picture of the system ie components involved etc but a circuit diagram gives in what way and how each component is to be connected. For example lets say the output of signal detector goes to an amplifier. In schematic diagram you just show the symbol of amplifier with signal (line) from detector but in circuit diagram you need to shown how each pin of amplifier (like transistor amplifier) is connected to the signal detector.

Regards,

Strange, when I get schematics from various places, it shows all the components and their values, even pin numbers on ICs. WHat you call a schematic, I call a block diagram that broadly shows what goes on, but has not details about pin numbers etc

A website that I have really enjoyed with good basic knowledge is:

Schematic Diagram: A pictoral representation of the circuit in question. Each component is represented by a specific symbol. All interconnections are shown, but pin numbers may not be shown. connectors may or may not be shown with pin numbers. If 20 resistors were to be mounted on a single terminal board, they might be shown all over the place on a schematic. They should be numbered; i.e., R1, R2 etc. All components should be numbered for identification.

Wiring diagram or circuit diagram. This would be more of a construction diagram, showing physical sizes, specific locations etc. The 20 resistors above would be shown all in a row on the termanal board.

A Schematic is used to understand the operations of the circuit. The wiring diagram is used to build it.

Just my cut on the problem.

To Dag,

Reading this myself and took notice of the site you mentioned, thanks buddy, you have pointed a few people in the right direction I think.
