People with expirience can count slots and folow entrance and exit of wire and with confidence tell number of the pole .

People with a lack of expirience usually read nameplate

Have you checked the motor nameplate and the motor documentation?

Have you gone back to the motor company's website and looked for the information there (or using a web search)?

The information should be there, even if the motor is old and obsolete.
