Why? I have found that lap top speakers never sound right...

Anyway, if you are just trying to hear your Ipod without head phones, I bought an Ipod speaker for forty dollars US from Logitech that works great.

You could also buy powered PC speakers for less than that and just plug them directly into your Ipod.

that's exactly what I'm trying not to do. I have my desktop Powered PC Speakers, but they are connected to my desktop, i would have to connect/disconnect every time, or take my powered pc speakers with me on a trip.

I have the ipod, and have the laptop perhaps they could work together.

Thanks anyway for your answer

Web search ; "You plug the audio cable into the headphone jack on ipod. Then into the line in on the laptop. In windows open the volume program and unmute the linein. Not sure in Mac OS maybe others know."

Dunno if that helps. If not, google http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4SUNA_enGB242GB242&q=Playing+an+ipod+thu+a+laptop and let us know what works.

Of course that's what I thought would work, but I don't listen anything, I used the microsoft Sound Recorder, and it does record what I'm playing and I can reproduce it later but not hear from Line-IN

Load your songs from the IPOD into ITUNES then play the songs.

There is a free open-source cross-platform audio editor called "Audacity".

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I have never used Audacity, and don't have an XP machine set up, so I can't give you any guidance, but if you work with this application it may give you the tools you need to do the job. Good luck.

It maybe worth checking out the properties of your audio mixer device. I should of thought that any audio on the 'Line In' input would be able to be heard through the Laptop speakers (after checking the obvious in Windoze Volume Controls). I have used Audacity as mentioned above and it's a great program for sampling and coverting formats (tape or vinyl to mp3 etc.) All the work I did was through the Line Input of a desktop PC and was audible without problems through my PC speakers, a laptop may differ. If you're trying to listen to your Ipod through the same speakers as your laptop then why not get an adaptor, 3.5mm stereo male to 2 x 3.5mm stereo female. That would work, and if anyone tries to tell you it will damage either your laptop or your Ipod they have a mental disorder of some sort.

I'll try Audacity, i don't understsand how you would want me to connect my ipod with the 1 male 3.5 stereo to 2 x 3.5 stereo female.?? I am conecting it using a 3.5 male stereo on each side, one goes to the ipod the other to line in.

I've tried all my sound setting and the on my sound card and the only thing I can do is switch from line in to mic. but it doesn't work either.

Thanks to all I'll let you know the results when I try the software

Here is the perfect solution. Plug your Ipod into the laptop using the USB connection. Then, your Ipod is an external drive containing a library of music files. Then simply use Itunes to add those files to your laptop's library and voila.

Many laptops plugs are mono, not stereo, and the impedence is for a microphone. You would need to find one of these USB adapters. You could also make your own adapter if you are handy with a soldering iron. You would still have a mono output unless you use the USB adapter.
