guyed tower and wind

09/01/2008 2:06 PM

good day to all. would like to ask what is the load on anchorage of each guy of a tower. Height of tower is 300 feet. Width is 6 feet. Shape is triangular. Material is steel plate. There are 6 steel cable guys, each one is attached to its anchorage. 3 guys are at 120 feet and 3 guys are at 240 feet. Wind speed is 100mph. Standards are EIA-222-F or similar.

Thanks

Is this a homework assignment? CR4 does not condone helping students with homework assignments. If it is not a homework assignment and you are actually designing the tower, then it is not a proper question. How do you intend to use the answer you get from CR4? Or alternatively, what part of the problem are you having trouble with?

This is not a homework assignment. The part of the problem is that it is a 20 years old telecom guyed tower i need to re-tighten the steel cable guys so i need to know the tension i have to apply to each guy. Thank you.

A tower such as you describe should be serviced on a regular basis, probably about every three years. If you know the original installer, find out whether the tower has been inspected and by whom. If not, have it inspected by qualified technicians at once. Check out this site for recommended maintenance procedures including guy cable tensioning.

The tension to be applied to the guy cables has nothing to do with the tension under a particular wind loading.

Hello

You need to do an analysis for this tower to get the anchorage loads, it cannot be estimated as you asked for.
