We have just completed a FEA on a part that has the following properties
The material is aluminum Young's Modulus: 10.7e06 Poisson's Ratio : 0.334 Yield strength : 13000psi
The results show .0136" of deformation and a maximum stress induced is 8,000 psi.
The way I interpret this is that the stress induced at 8,000 is a 1.625 margin of safety and we are good to proceed. But my fellow engineers tell me that the .0136" of deformation is the concern.
How do we interpret the results of an FEA and what makes the results 'Acceptable?"
