bus bar design

09/04/2008 6:36 AM

I have one bus bar design data. in this bus bar arrangement, they are considering 7 factors and the transformer short circuit current is 35 KA. In the first one,

1) Main bus bar : W'100*T'10*2(Cu)

Assumed sym Rms short circuit Lk = 31,500A

Asym Rms short circuit = 78,750 A.

I couldnt understand, how they consider the sym value as 31,500 and asy value as 78750. Because as per calculation short circuit current is 35 KA.

In the third one, For finding mechanical strength (Insulator pending load), The derived value is 477.75kg. But the value from insulator test report is 1182 Kg. Two times higher than the derived value. Is it correct.

I request you to kindly clarify the above doubts.

Regards,

Kailash (India)

1) 31.5 x 1.4 x 1.77 =78.61

(1.41: pick current factor,1.77=DC offset factor)

2) 477.75 kgf as you say is calculated force, but 1182 kgf is guarantee value. There are no any conflictions.

Dear sir,

Thank you. vey good answer. Also,

1) Main bus bar : W'100*T'10*2(Cu)

What is the above formula & what it means. Pls kindly clarify.

Hello,

The 100x10x2 mm is the bus bar cross section decided based on the current to be carried in the bus bar. 31.5 kA is the short circuit current capacity for specific time in seconds (say 1 sec.). This is the requirement for teh respective voltage level.
