To do what? To work as an engineer, a BS is all you need. For teaching, a Master's minimum and a PhD eventually.

Hello,

You seem to be harbouring same dilemma as I used to in my early career. I am a Diploma holder but learned society regards me as if I am a Professor/Doctorate in field/s which they get benefits of my deliverables.

I am today 62. I wish to suggest, as follows, which is my Favourite Topic for younger lot, offered by my experiential wisdom:

1. Education is The base of "PASSPORT" permitting you to Travel Globe wide for career.

2. Specialization in your chosen Field/s is the VISA granted to you by yourself to Command Entry in to chosen Domains for career.

3. Basic Objective if is 'personal CAREER development', then Education as Passport is ADEQUATE. Your own doubt could be erased over time, by your SELF WILL, to gather the ADDITIONAL Power of Knowledge and WISDOM in the chosen domain.

4. Nursing a basic DOUBT that your Career depends on Basic Qualification is unwarranted. Degree may be a + for Passport. But Degree Without VISA does not help in today's Commewrcial competetive World. Latter is a true judge.

Your developed skills in ANY Field OR Many Fields, aligned with Domain of Basic Qualification OR OTHERWISE( for uneducated) is the TRIUMP Card for Career Game.

Your audience, recipients of your contributions, if openly acknowledge and/or benefit, to reward you monetarily or by Merit recognition, is TRUE Development for self Career Objective.

5 My advice to you is ... Forget PASSPORT status, the QUALIFICATION base, and Try to get as many VISAs in as many Fields of your choice .....where you enjoy acquiring learning and transferring knowledge in to actions of goodwill and materialistic benefits for serving society, will be the Best Choice ....SUMMON your SELF CONFIDENCE and MARCH ahead.

Regards & Best Wishes, KK. kishorekaikini@yahoo.co.in kishorekaikini@gmail.com

This is very dependant on what you want to do. If, for example, you wish to work in an engineering discipline that requires sign off or certification you will need a degree at minimum. If you have more than 10 years of specific experience in a particular field you could become a Senior Company engineer with a Diploma level of tertiary study.

If you are just starting out in Engineering and have no or little experience, a diploma or advanced diploma will not allow you to get much work in Engineering. With little or no experience you should do a degree, and then back it up with substantial field experience.

Most of the more highly paid engineering jobs tend to go to those people with much experience and an appropriate level of education, but not necessarily a degree if practical knowledge and experience of a high order is proven to the employer.

Regards,

Pete.

Thank you with your answer, i agree with thats. Sometimes i think why come out with the advanced diploma but not a degree course in the market. and advanced diploma is equivalent with degree.

An advanced diploma is never sufficient, One needs to be competent. Ethical. Experienced. Courageous. Servant of the greater good. devoted to continuous improvement.

Diploma is just ticket of admission to your job interview.Competence, etics and experience will help you contribute; Courage will help you avoid cheats and injurious shortcuts, and serving the greater good is your lifes work as a professional. Continuous improvemengt is how we make things better.

Everything else is just distractions.
