Loss of Hydraulic Oil Pressure

09/07/2008 3:06 PM

How I can overcome this problem

Hydraulic oil pressure of hydraulic presses having 350 tons capacity reduces while working which results in poor quality of the product. Heat exchanger is in use for cooling the oil temperature

"Hydraulic oil pressure of hydraulic presses having 350 tons capacity reduces while working"

If that means it happens from a cold start to some length of run time it could be an Oile Heating problem even though there is a heat exchanger.

How hot does the oil get?

How much tempeature diffence is there between oil entering the heat exhanger and oil leaving it?

How is the odor of the oil as compared to new oil? Does it smell Burned? Cooked?

Your problem sounds like a system with deteriorated oil that thins out and keeps the system from reaching full pressure due to excess bypass. There could be other reasons but I find bad oil caused by over heating is the culprit in a lot of cases of deteriorating pressure after a cold startup. And, over heated oil is sometime caused by a heat echanger that has its water or air flow flow reduced from mineral deposits in the tubes or a clogged radiator that also acts as insulation between the hot oil and the cooling media.

The oil gets too hot while operating when we start the press the temperature is very low around 7 degree but with the continious use the temperature gets increased to more than 40 degree thus the temperature difference reduces between input and output to heat exchanger. We check the oil it get thin also we change the oil also futher somes times smell of burning of oil is observed , then we change the oil , we make a frequent change of oil. We also clean the heat exchanger too. May be the heat exchanger under capacity of cooling the oil if so how can we design the heat exchanger for solving this particular probl;em

If I could get pertinent information such as temperatures and pressures, operating times, oil viscosity, etc. I could diagnose with good accuracy.

A good place to start would be taking an oil sample to analyze for oxidaion, viscosity, TAN, etc.

I can asist you if you are willing to obtain information. Where are you located?

this is related with hydraulic press for producing ceramic tiles 8"x8"tiles 3 tiles in one stroke and 18 strokes per minute

Temperature input 7degree

operating hydraulic pressure 300 bar

continous operation operating 18 strokes per minute

I agree with BudT. In addition I would be checking to make sure there is no trapped in the system.

Air can take a lot of the punch out of an hydraulic press.

Hi

will you please eloborate what you mean by "there is no trapped in the system" and

"Air can take a lot of the punch out of an hydraulic press."

if u are sure there are no leakages due to bad seals then u shuld try other hydraulics that can withstand very high temp without loss of quality. check the efficiency of the heat exchanger( is it by water or fan)if by water check the temp of the cooling media . if by air check wether the fan speed is ok cause if driven by belt it may be 'slipping'.

If you change the type of fluid used, make sure the current seals, etc. are compatible with the new fluid.

yeh the oil seal are compatible with the new fluid as we donot observe any oil leakages

Sure there is no leakages due to bad seals

I also try high oil temperature hydraulic oil

cold water is used in Heat exchanger for cooling the oil

If the system has been filled for years and hasn't had the oil replaced then it is very likely that there is enough water in the system to prevent proper operation as the temperature of the oil approaches the boiling point. Assuming there are no leaks in the system I would completely drain the whole thing and put in new hydraulic oil. Make sure you bleed the system completely when the new oil is installed.

Can you post a schematic of the circuit?
