Are you getting shocked by your home electric supply, or are you getting zapped by static electricity. If it is the former you may have an issue with your household wiring, contact a qualified electrician. If the latter, I would recommend a humidifier or some way to decrease your build up of static electricity in your home. It doesn't sound like the problem is in your computers because you have the problem on two different systems.

Thanks for the mail.If it is due to static electricity how to remove static electricity from the computer? I have a cardiac pace maker.Hence I am unable to use computers due to the same in my house.Problem is only in my house not in my office - I feel.

I have called an electrician to check the lines and to confirm that due to some wrong wiring, power does not come through neutral or by earth wires.Recently some electrical work was done in my house. In factories I used to see that earthing strips are disconnected during maintenance and not connected after that.Such negligence do occur in my country.

But the electrician is yet to visit me.

If your problem is static electricity, it will only shock briefly and remain discharged until you move around.

But if the shock is related to a power problem, you will feel it over and over while sitting still in front of the computer. Which is it?

Check if the earthing of your house is ok, or the earthing from your computer to the socket

I strongly recommend this. Most of the plug tops of do not have a ground pin. I think they do it to suit some European stds. In our part of the world we have a 3 male pin plug which goes into a 3 female socket base. So you may have to cut off the plug top and put in a new plug.

Usually it is a capacitive charge building up in your computer frame as a result of poor grounding (earthing). You become a better capacitor than the PC frame, so the charge flows to you.

Getting shocked by laptop? Laptop has AC/DC low voltage converter in-line so no faulty neutral or grounding shocks should occur.

But does laptop shock if on battery only??

Likely a static discharge then. Humidifier or teapot left to simmer or take off slippers before touching electronics (:

Dont do anything, ask electrician to install ELCB near to electricity meter in main power supply, if this problum is related to wiring/earthing then ELCB will trip any save u & your appliance, (choose ELCB of 30 mamp rating) . it is very much required as per new electricity rules also....

Yesterday, I got my electrician check the lines .As I suspected,it was seen that the Earth wires have phase supply.I hope he will come to marrow and rectify the problems. As I have mentioned, I have a cardiac pace maker implanted.Hence I was not using a tester to check the lines.

Thanks to all those contributed to this questions.

When you set up your lab top or computer, are you on a carpet?

I understand about the wiring.

As another precaution, where you have your computer set up and where you use your lab top, have an anti-static matting on the floor.

You can also get an anti-static wrist band that you can put on your wrist and attach it to the casing of your computers. This will elimintate the static discharge between you and your computer.

Static electricity will fry your processor, even undetectable discharges.

Check whether the pin marked P (Phase) on the plug matches the phase on the receptor whch can be done by a tester.U can also check this in your office. Some where during wiring the phase and neutral on the plug that wired in the house would have changed .Try using on a different plug.If its notmatching its a simple job of interchanging the leads.

I took the lap top to my office and found that there is no shock and it confirmed the problem in the house wiring.I had installed an invertor supply and I beleive the electricians who worked may have done some mistakes in connecting wires.I was not using testers as I have an inplant with me.Thanks for the lively discussion. The great man,- my Electrician is yet to arrive.Let me pary God to get him fast and rectify the problems.!!
