Engine Manufacturer & Model ?

09/12/2008 6:57 AM

Good day

Do anyone have any idea

1. Who manufacture this engine?

2. What country it is currently manufactured in ?

3. Type of engine ? - Hino or Iveco or any other that is manufactured by a 2nd licensed holder company of older technology.

4. Possible year of manufacturing runs ? (e.g. 1980-1988)

5. From the pic - estimated litre size ? ( e.g. 8.3 Litre)

We have this engine partly as seen - it must be built up to be running.

It actually starts and sounds ok - only the turbo have a slight problem.

From the looks and size it looks like a 7.6-8.3 Litre (Turbo & Aftercooled with a SEN injector pump)

If I look at the ASHOK LEYLAND site from India it looks like it originated there but they

responded negatively.

Thank You

"...a long weekend..."

I consider that a bit subjective, considering the manner of conveyance.

Interesting... I run into the same problems from time to time.

A couple questions that may help,

  • Is it part of a package (gen set or pump)? If so that might be another research point.
  • Where are the starter, alternator made? Narow your search down.
  • Metric or Standard sizes?
  • Any obvious casting numbers or stampings anywhere?
  • How did you happen across this strainge beast?

Hi

As a genset.

Metric

Looks like a Hino engine typo

No plates

Nothing casted on block

Was cheap - very cheap and as a Genset running the minimal hours.

You mentioned that it had a Sens injector pump. If you contact them with the injector pump number, they should know what they used that injector pump on, and who they sold it to. Same holds true with the Alternator and starter. but not as exact as the injector pump people.

You might try contacting an injector pump specialty company. they might recognise the engine, or be able to cross reference the injector pump. Good luck.

No marks? Could this be a "clone" (you said 'very cheap')

I've dealt w/ some higher quality 'clones' that the 'donor' parts were a direct interchange...

THAT APPEARS TO BE A BRITISH ENGINE USUALLY USED IN BOATS OR LARGE TRUCKS FOR LONG HAULS.

Why is it that some people waste time and energy to write BS like this GUEST? The engine is the driver for a generator this man purchased and he is simply looking for a little help from the forum?

If you as a guest cant help, ok... Move on.

What is the electrical output? What voltage, What hertz? These figures may give some clues as to the location where it was manufactured.

I still feel that your best information will come from the fue injector pump. Pump manufacturers make changes to these pumps for every little change, so they will know what used that pump.

BLC,

See if you can read what is printed on the fanbelt. This may help with country of origin. Also see what is printed on the filters after you remove their cans/covers.

You can now rule out the nations that run on 60 Hz. I was hoping that by now you would have shared the numbers on the injector pump.

That puts another stumbling block in the way. I will go to an injection pump shop and quiz them. Are there any identifying numbers on the starter? It must be matched to an engine design. those # will help. BTW, I am not able to find an injection pump manufacturer by the name of sen.
