Cable Selection

09/30/2006 4:22 AM

I have some homework and need to find the answer to this question:

For the following installations, choose a suitable type of electrical cable or electrical cord, and explain the properties or features of the cable you have chosen, which influenced your choice in selecting this particular cable / cord.

a) A 3300 volt supply cable to an overhead crane

b) A four core control cable which must be installed in a flame-proof location

c) A 32 amp ring main, in a domestic dwelling, where the cosen cable is to be buried within the plaster of the building wall

Yeah, i'll take a stab at this (atleast he/she did indicate it was a homework question).

(a) - XLPE with a braided neutral screen

(b) - Braided screen twisted pair mounted in <mumble..mumble>

(c) - PVC TPS

As to my reasons (or a more detailed cable description), well you will need to figure that out yourself (unless you want me to give you all the answers, in which case I want a royalty on any future wages you recieve working in the engineering field).
