Disaster Safe Homes

09/30/2006 2:54 PM

This is in concern over the fishermen community who face threat from cyclones and Hurricanes. I was trying to develop a small home with floor area of 150 SFT after the Tsunami hit the South Asian coasts.

The house basically is to withstand the pressure of strong winds during the cyclones, With some safety suits, emergency requirements, Store to stock the fishing equipment, Radio etc.

Can I have some assistance from Experts so that many lives can be on safe hands with bad & extreme weathers.

I would want a building shaped like a covered lifeboat. Looks like a flying saucer, and is a lifeboat. I would moor it to something, if rising waters are a problem. Otherwise I would sink it into the earth two thirds. The saucer shape offers little resistance to wind, as do no eaves. Portholes would be good. Bamboo covered by cement would be good, and would float if properly constructed. Cement boats float, as do steel ones. You would want to seal the whole thing with marine paint, or the equivalent.

So when the volcano erupts beneath you, you will be cooked like a hard boiled egg?

Your floatable place with an anchor cable might be OK for rising waters and tsunamis.

I would tend to want a stable place( zero quake history) with some height and make a totally concealed place with water/food/power reserves for some time. Probably 3-4 40 foot sea containers connected together and buried and earth covered with a hidden access path.
