Have you tried the usual auto part stores, and your Toyota dealer?

dealer cost $205 with all-in-one, plus installation, not worth it...engineer should try by self....just put a new bushing in...around $10? but do not find it anywhere with spec.

OUCH! Not ideal, but perhaps you could find a good one at the junkyard.

I guess nobody want to sell you just the bushing, but this is better than Toyota:

www.energysuspension.com

Is the best of the companies that I am aware of that make polyurethane bushings for automotive use.

You can Google poly bushings, and get a page full of companies that manufacture custom bushings. You will be better off if you take measurements of the old bushing, so that one of the companies can match it up bu size.

If you are still not able to find a replacement, here are two additional ways to go.

  1. Remove the strut rod, and examine the remains of the bushing. If the metal outer, and inner pieces of metal are intact, and usable, remove as much of the rubber as you can. Prepare Devcon brand Flexane urethane epoxy, and fill the cavity that remains from the old bushing. Flexane is available in different hardnesses. Pick the hardest. Allow to set up overnight, and you should be set.
  2. You could remove the damaged bushing. carefully measure the OD, ID, and length. It would be easy to cut an aluminum bar to these dimensions. You will have to press the new bushing into the strut, but that should do it. Lube the inside of the new bushing to prevent seizing on the bolt.

Good luck. I have presumed that the bushing is metal, rubber, metal. If this is not the design, send pictures.

Thanks for the information. I have a 1998 Nissan Altima with a similar bushing issue. I did not want to pay over $200 to fix a simple bushing. You have save me a lot of money. Thanks again.

Hello Robeert,

can you tell me what engine your Camry has please? I found a site where the parts are listed for most Japanese cars but, you have to choose the engine before it gives you the 'spares' list.

Look up the Toyota part number in the online catalog at the website of one of the Toyota dealers and then do a Google search using that number. Parts sold by dealers are of good quality but invariably over priced. Like most auto manufacturers Toyota buys a large proportion of the parts it installs in their cars and I assume that applies to strut rod bushings. Look for a retailer who certifies the bushing he sells is OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or OES (original equipment supplier),i.e. made by the same company that made to part for Toyota. Since your car is now 17 years old there should be many OES/OEM supplier parts available. Above all don't buy an aftermarket part: it may not fit and the quality is uncertain.
