Copper to Copper spot welding

Hello

I have a round copper component with a collar of thickness 1 mm and 0.6mm to be weld.

The component holding fixture is made of copper.

pls suggest us the best electrode and the component holding material.

Try stainless steel electrode and aluminum (T6) holding fixture.

The requirement is spot welding from the customer end.

As welderman stated, a sketch of what you're trying to join would be helpful.

As I am sure you know, since you're attempting to join such thin material, you have a very good chance of warpage and distortion, along with some chance of affecting the mechanical and chemical characteristics of your base materials by welding.

This is why I suggest that, at a minimum, your customer should examine potential alternatives to the proposed process. Having been responsible for the joining of metals, often in high stress applications which have the potential for major negative consequences from failure, if your customer has not studied alternatives, I would suggest doing so before committing to a single process.

I am not at all stating that what you propose cannot be done. It certainly can. But there are other methods which might be more acceptable in your circumstances.

Again, a sketch would allow us to refine our responses to your inquiry.

Use tungsten faced tips.

diameter of tip at 1mm side of copper to be half the size of the other tip.

Use high power with short time sequence as copper will absorb heat very rapidly.

A sketch of the joint configuration woulg be helpful. Is this a cross wire weld (like in a shopping cart) or are the two copper pieces welded to each other axially? Pure copper is not normally a good candidate for resistance weldeing, but there are a few tricks that can help. Also, percussion welding is a form of spot welding that works well with copper.

I think capacitor or inductor storage welding will work .

I have used a TIG with bronze rod and paste flux to weld copper to copper and copper to steel with very good success. You will need at least 200 amp to overcome the copper's great propensity for heat transfer. You can effect a spot weld with this method very easily.
