Volvo 960 (1993)

09/21/2008 1:46 AM

Hello Gentlemen

I have a couple of problems with my Volvo 960 1993 model which I would appreciate some advice on

Overdrive

When I switch the ignition on the Overdive on off switch works normally. ie the little arrow light goes on and off. As soon as I start driving the little arrow light starts flickering on and off

Speedometer

The speedometer does not work at all. I cannot find a drive connection to the gearbox. Could it be electronic

Any advice will be appreciated

The both problems could be caused by the same faulty part. Overdrives are designed to not engage below a certain speed. This would be the same thing that sends a signal out to the speedometer. Look near the back of the transmission for a set of wires that would be able to see the output shaft of the transmission rotate. That would be your transmission speed sensor. If you are in doubt, look in a repair manual for this car. Replace the sensor, and you should be back in business.

My '87 760 Turbo has speed sensor on the differential, yours is front wheel drive, so it should be on the trany.
