Ball valve in refinery

10/11/2008 1:24 AM

For Cl 125FF we are using CL 300 threaded Ball valve. Why Cl. 150 threaded ball valve can not be used?

Commodity - drinking water

End connections - pipe(1.5") ,A53,S160,galvanised,threaded & coupled,FBW

Operating Pr = 60 psig

Operating Temp = 90 F

Corrosion allowance = 0.125"

Design P & Temp = 150 psig & 150 F

I think in any refinery, the lowest class of valves threaded/socketwelded is class 800 not 300. And also, I think that classes 125#, 150#, 300#, ...etc. is specified for flanged connections. The class/rating of threaded/socket welding fittings is 2000# (to match pipe Sch. 40 & STD.), 3000# (for Sch. 80 & XS), 6000# (for Sch. XXS) and 9000# (for higher schedules).

Service: Drinking water, fine.

In refinery, within battery limit or out side?
