Motor Connection

10/15/2008 11:57 AM

hi, can any one help to change the connection of paper shredder machine motor which is brought from germany, the connection of the motor is 220 volt 3 phase but being in india we want to use it on 440 volt 3 phase , it has 9 terminal which is marked as v1 u1 w1 , v2 u2 w2 and v5 u5 w5 .

the v2 u2 w2 is shorted the v1 v5 is short u1 u5 is short w1 w5 this connection is on 220 volt 3 phase the machine MODEL is EBA 6040 C ,made KRUG AND PRIESTER .thanks

If the supply input is to U5, V5 and W5 then it looks to me like it's already wired in Star mode which means it will not run from 440V even if reconfigured. Reconfiguring to Delta would result in approximately a 120 volt motor. Can you see any motor nameplate details?

The motor Terminal Box should have drawings of the windings with terminal numbers.

If not chekc with manufacturer for the terminal and windings details.

Is difficult to say where U1, V1, W1, U2, V2, W2 , U5, V5, W5 are actully at the windings.

Good Luck!

I suspect you have a center tapped 3 phase winding connected in star for 220 volt.

In which case remove shorts v2 u2 w2 and v1 v5, u1 u5, and w1 w5 .

Reconnect shorts w5 v1, v5 u1, u5 w1. this should reconfigure in Delta 440 volts.

However do a continuity check with all shorts removed to confirm your actual coils

connections v1 v5 being one ,u1 u5 the second and w1 w5 the third coil.

Good luck.

v1 v5 is short u1 u5 is short w1 w5 -- OPen the above 3 shorted connections .

Measure the impedance of v1-v5 and v1-v2

If Imp v1-v5 is more than v1-v2 then input terminals fore 440 V supply shall be u5, v5 and w5

If Impedance v1-v5 is less than v1-v2. Then input supply terminals should be u1,v1 w1 . But confirm the wdg diagram also at the name plate . For 440 V the each wdg should be longer / with more impedance than in 220 V .
