Serious problem: 3 to 1 phase transformer? hepl me

10/16/2008 6:34 AM

Dear everybody!

your problem is also mine. I am working with Siemens' locomotive. On this system have an special transformer. 3 cables input for 3 synchorous phase but output is just 2 cables for only one phase. This is vector group for ours: Delta for primary windings and V for secondary winding.

Who can explain me how does it work? Please show me its diagram

thanks a lot.

This sounds like a "ZIG ZAG" connection where two secondary phases are connected reverse polarity with the third phase. In a three phase delta network the instantaneous sum of the voltages is zero (Otherwise the network would be a big short circuit).

Therefore the instantaneous voltage of any two phases equals the voltage of the other phase, and the result will appear to be a single phase. This circuit is used often to use three phase generators (Alternators for you purists) as single phase power source.

Consider the "ZIG ZAG" of two phase secondaries as 2/3 of a Wye network connected in series with the third phase. The connection between the "ZIG ZAG" of two phases and the third phase would show the same voltages as a single phase center tapped transformer.

Any Help[???? CEKM
