Where could I find joystick's knobs with pushbuttons?

10/21/2008 3:35 PM

Hello I try to customize my slit lamp. They are instruments for eye exam which are usually controlled by an XYZ handle. My present problem is that my joystick handle have no pushbutton, and I would like to buy one with. I cannot find one webpage for this acquisition, the most similar was that:

http://www.etisystems.com/joydesign.asp

I would like to get something similar the D knob of this site, however it seems that the knob is included with the here proposed industrial joystick

Is it possible that does not exist some specific place for the manufacturing and sale of this elements??

The typical optometric enterprises are not an option because the sell very very expensive. I think that this is a typical industrial product.

Any idea where can I ask ??

Thanks and greetings,

JORGE_______

A slit lamp joystick is usually a purely mechanical device as I recall from when I worked at a Haag-Streit owned company.

This site has a picture of two totally electric joysticks. I believe there are also electric joysticks available from Eaton Hydraulics. If you need more info, let me know. Good luck.

Seems like it would be pretty easy to add a micro switch to the joystick, rather than trying to replace it with one with a built-in switch. Suggest you peruse the offerings of switches at www.mouser.com to see if they have something you can use.

Since the joystick on a slit lamp is used to move the stage supporting the optics, it might be easier to just mount the micro switch on the stage close to the joystick, so it could be activated by a spare digit on your "joystick hand".

Have you thought about using a gaming joystick? Even a mid range model will have XYZ theta and phi, plus more buttons then you could ever possibly need.

Why do you want to add the switch... to fire a camera?

thanks very much for the help the webs are very interestings but I cannot find there the knobs separately from the joysticks ... it is strange ...

Hmmmmm Ok, I will try to take a picture of the present Joystick (it will be tomorrow I think), the game joystick cannot be good because the joystick the handle is mechanical one, for the z movement you have roll the handle and for the x,y you have to push. The slit lamp moves along rails.

Yes, I wanted that the button/s could start a photo or video camera among others. The typical button (I will send also one photo tomorrow) have very good appearence that is what I thought make something similar.

Do you another option?? please answer after seeing the photos for a better judgement,

Greetings,

Jorge,

A couple of other ways to fire a camera are by either a bite switch or a tongue switch. http://conceptusinc.com/biteswitch.htm
