Have you even tried it? It may work fine. If it does not work then being a little more specific on what does not work would help other people help you.

If software was created before the launch of Vista, that doesn't necessarily mean that it wont work on Vista. I'd say give it a try first, then go from there.

If you seem to have problems installing, then try running the installation in compatibility mode. To do this you will have to right click on your installation .exe (setup.exe probably). Then go to properties and click on the compatibility tab. Then check the box which says run in compatibility mode, choose windows xp. Then try installing again.

It probably depends on whether the software relies on a device driver. Usually these are different between Windows 98, 2000 and sometimes xp. I'd say though you will probably find that the software works just fine, especially if it supports xp. Best advice would be to try it.

Your best bet, stay with XP. Vista = problems.

I will second this thought. Unless you have a bloody good reason to want to switch to Vista then stick with XP.

Come to think of it, is there any reason to switch to Vista? I'm not sure it does any thing better or faster than XP, it just seems to have more crapware embedded.

I bought a new computer with Vista installed for my daughter. Vista bites the big one. What really ticks me off is when they make updated software that won't work with the old systems, and old programs that won't run on the new systems. All they want is your money, not your loyalty. Wheres all this backward compatability they talk about?

Hi afifahasan,

I was only reading on this forum yesterday about a software package, supplied by microsoft (free download), which I believe will solve your problem. It's called Vitual PC 2007 and, it allows you to run all of the Windows versions of OS you mentioned (all at the same time if I'm not mistaken), as long as you've got the licenses for them. You can then run your Siemens software on whichever OS you decide to use. Try the link below and see if it will do the job.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx

They've also got some software (also free), called Application Compatibility Toolkit Ver.5.0, which allows you to test run applications, to see if it's compatilbe with vista. If not, there is then a network that will try and work on a fix for you.

Regards,

Neil

Like others have said try it and see if it works. Depending on your version of Vista, there is an option called compatibility mode, it allows you to run software in Vista simulating Win95 up to XP. I run Vista Ultimate 32 bit version, and it has this option. I can't speak for the 64 bit version.

Hi afifahasen,

As other posts have said try it and or go to Siemens PLC site and look for a patch for Vista; if you need it Siemens will have it or the path to it.

I have not experienced compatibility troubles with software running on Vista (blessed I am indeed) if it will run on 2000/XP. Earlier editions not having the patch update to 2000 do not generally run on XP/SP2 or Vista.

Greetings,

I switched to Vista because of home LAN connectivity issues and really am not that impressed by it. However, there is a way to run older versions of Windows apps using the compatibility mode that can be found in the properties (that's a right-click) of the .exe file.

Check ouit this and similar sites http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-compatibility-mode/ they may give you the help you need.

Good luck

A pre-beta form of Microsoft 7 the Vista replacement O/S has been leaked to Bit Torrent. Try googling Microsft 7
