Control Gear Glossary

11/03/2008 8:24 AM

Hi, Folks,

Does anyone know of a document (preferably freely available on the net) that describes a standard for the nomenclature of terminals of control gear?

Simple examples:

  • 11/12 - NC contacts
  • 13/14 - NO contacts
  • X1/X2 - Monitoring feedback (on e.g. monitoring safety relay)
  • S11/S12 - NC inputs (on e.g. monitoring safety relay)

From there on, it seems to get pretty complicated, with e.g. Y1/Y2 used for control inputs, 15/16 for delayed NC contacts etc.

Thanks in advance for any good links or info.,

John

hose are all IEC terminal designations, more specifically related to what are called Safety Relays. IEC references are usually fee based documents, but a thorough Google search may turn up something. You may also try downloading catalog information from IEC Saferty Relay manufacturers such as Siemens, Schneider or ABB, some of which will show guides as to what the terminal numbers mean.

That does some of the 11/12 things - thanks - but it misses out all the S, X, Y, B etc stuff that turns up (depending to some extent on manufacturer, so maybe some stuff is made up as they go along).

Here's another useful link: http://www.moeller.net/en/support/wiring_manual.jsp

The full manual (downloadable zipped, 5.66MB) gives lots of useful info, but still lacks the SXY stuff.
