Visio4

11/03/2008 2:27 PM

Does anyone know of an upgrade, or patch, to cause Visio4 to operate under Windows Vista? I can load it in, but all I get on open is the opening picture. I cannot open Visio4 itself, or any file created in Visio4.

For Visio 2007, no patch is needed for it to work with Vista.

You can get the info at: http://www.csupomona.edu/~ehelp/software/vista_applications.html and also directly from the horse's mouth at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/overview.mspx

HTH!

I didn't say Visio 2007 - I said Visio4.

the short answer is: NO

if your usage of visio 4 is simply viewing and printing, you can use a viewer. otherwise, <sigh> you can just imagine how 2 pieces of software coming from the same company cannot work together and have to force you to upgrade or downgrade one or the other.

your choice.

Thanks - but by screwing around a lot, I finally got it to work. But not from the internal drive (managed by Vista), but directly from the CD in the external drive. I can now create, edit, view, etc Visio4 files. Took a while, but I finally got it. But then, I'm not too bright.

you're onto something, man!

just how exactly did you do it? what do you mean "not from the internal drive, but directly from the CD in the external drive"?

I would suppose a Virtual PC would have done it, too, i.e., running an XP sandbox inside a Vista OS.

By digging around in the CD, I uncovered D:\VISIO\VISIO16.EXE & created a shortcut. But again, the original, purchased CD must be in the D drive. I cannot get it to work from the C drive. But, like I said, I'm not too bright.

just as I thought. you ran the application from the CD drive.

good hack / workaround! it's probably running a little slower, but it works, at least!
