Guest,

Determining the "best option" for you is something that you must do yourself...

I attended Stevens Institute for graduate studies in civil/environmental engineering more a decade and a half ago, and found much of the coursework very valuable, even to this day. At least back then, the teacher/student ratio at Stevens was low - Class sizes were small, which is usually a good thing...

Stevens is (or at least was at that time) a fairly "hardcore" engineering school (at least from my perspective), and I recall several of the (non-native) graduate faculty that I interfaced with were significantly more fluent in mathematics than in english.

By that I mean that when a professor found difficulty describing a phenomenon in words, he resorted to partial differential equations...

I believe that NJIT is a public university, whereas Stevens is private. While I don't know the current costs, I'm fairly certain that Stevens' tuition is significantly higher than NJIT. NJIT probably offers a discount to residents of the state.

With respect to location, Stevens is located in the town of Hoboken, a significantly more "suburban" area of NJ than NJIT, which is in downtown Newark. I recall that for the first couple of weeks I attended night classes at Stevens, I couldn't figure out why much of the campus and surrounding streets smelled like freshly brewed coffee, and was unsuccessful in finding the restaurant the smell came from.

That is, until I realized that the aroma wasn't coming from a restaurant or deli, it was emanating from the Maxwell House coffee plant that was located about a thousand feet north of the Stevens campus. Unfortunately, the plant was shut down in the mid-nineties, and Hoboken probably doesn't smell as good as it used to...

I would suggest you contact both universities, and find out what resources they have available for prospective students to interface with faculty and alumni, both online, and in person.

Stevens

If anything it has a better view of the city.

As mentioned above, it is a very hardcore faculty and school. Many of my sons friends are attending there right now. They love it even as hard as it may be, but the bottom line is where you feel you will get the better education and will feel comfortable attending.

Thanks for your view but require more from u all. I have been provided MS in business and computing at NJIT which will be a course jointly offered by Computing and management school at NJIT. I preferred New Jersey as it is close to the financial capital of the world .So I have chosen such a major .

At Stevens however i have chosen a course which would also be a mix of business and computing but more on the technology side (MS in Enterprise Compuiting) offered by college of computing.

I must tell u all that I already have three years of work exp. in application support at a multinational firm in india and am considering which university would be the best option.

I have also heard that NJIT is much cheaper as compared to stevens .Moreover in the admit provided by stevens ,they have put a clause for me to have english classes at the college ,though my TOEFL iBT Scores are pretty high(110/120).This has made me consider the courses and universities.

Please guide me which would be the best for me as I am a undergrad in Comp. Science and wish to gain in comp science with enough exposure to business.I am also lookin out for better job and internship option.

Thanks in advance to all ,

Priyank
