Steam Shower Ventilation

11/09/2008 11:19 AM

It seems necessary to vent a steam shower within the shower space itself to prevent constant condensation when just using the shower and to properly ventilate when done with the steamer. Has anyone had experience with venting outside the steamer enclosure? Thank you.

I have a tile steam/shower enclosure. I use the steam unit about 3 times a week for over 3 years. Living in a cold climate I chose not to vent the room because in the winter I didn't want the cold air coming in, nor did i want the heat to vent out. So in short condensation does occur on the walls in the enclosure I just leave the door open slightly after a steam and everything dry's out nicely. I have never had any problems with wet walls or mold. I think the dry heat from the house sucks all the moisture out of the air very quickly.

We own a piece of property in a town about 90 minutes South East of Mexico city.

Although not at all a humid environment we still have a problem with a damp, musky odor in one of the bathrooms which has only a toilet and a shower.

Our problem is that the bath is in the interior of a house that is made entirely of poured cement, including the roof. Venting to the outside is a challenge.

Concerns about cutting into the roof structure has delayed implementing any fan assisted venting.

So we leave the door open most of the time.

I have a steam shower from www.mybath.biz and the steam shower (Rainforest 78) I purchased has a ventalation fan within the unit. I would ask the manufacturer what they recommend for your steam shower as they should be able to provide customers with a recommendation.

Good informative post, Showers of our times come in many types and shapes. Mixer showers help to adjust the temperature of bath water to acceptable levels. Thanks for sharing this.
