Allen Head Thread-Forming Screw

11/14/2008 2:10 PM

I am in search of 1000 5mm x 30mm Allen Head Thread Forming/Cutting Zinc plated Steel Screws but can not seem to find this particular screw anywhere!

Does anyone know where I can find this screw? or possibly have it manufactured?

Thank you,
Mooref2

Mooref2 Is this a self tapping screw? Or a regular metric machine screw? M5X30 socket head.

Yes, i believe it is a self tapping screw, M5x30 Socket Head

Is there a difference between a self tapping and thread forming?

MooreF2,

30mm's a hell of a long length for a self-threading screw. Wouldn't it be easier to tap the hole and fit a normal screw (assuming that you do mean M5X30). What material is the screw going into? Steel and plastic require different thread-forming techniques and 30mm is a loooong way to tap a hole in steel.

Regarding your description of the screw.....

There are self-TAPPING screws defined as "5mm", but normally self tappers of this size are designated either "ST4.8" (i.e. 4.8mm) or "No. 10".

Self-THREADING screws are usually either thread rolling or thread cutting and could be difficult to find with an Allen head. These would be described as "M5".

As you have not defined the screw correctly I assume that you are not familiar with metric screws. Perhaps if you could advise what the function of this screw is we can help more.
