difference between isolator and AB switch.

11/15/2008 7:23 AM

Dear sir,

1)what is the difference between isolator and AB switch in view of costruction and technology wise?

2)which is the right place where we will install isolator or AB switch? And what factors decide it.

Cheers

Hi, gova 1467

Your thread is not very clear. There are two types of AB switches one off load circuit breakers and other on load air circuit breakers. AB switches are normally off load circuit breakers with manual switching and can be called as isolators. Their design is simple and important design feature is only contact reliability and voltage and current rating. There is no fuse protection or over load or earth fault protection. For on load circuit make and break,ABCB/ OCB/MOCB/ VCB / SF6 circuit breakers are used depending on voltage and current rating. They operate on overload and earth fault with earth fault and overload tripping relays and arc quenching devices.

Hi abraham,

Both isolator switch and Air blast switches don't have the facility of overload and earth fault protection.

Kind regards

The function of ABCB is also similar to other circuit breakers but the arc quenching medium is high pressure air blat. For detailed information about circuit breakers read the link

Hi abrahim

You are writing about ABCB.It is circuit breaker.

But I am telling AB switches. It is manual or motor operated switch.thats it.

Best regards
