The instructions for using the cold shrink normaly comes together with the kit and has to be strictly followed, especially for a HT cable, the cleaning of the cable is very important to avoid tracking at the end. Once the cleaning is completed, the lug is cable teminal must be installed on the ends. For application of the cold shrink, just place the termination on the cable and pull out the string from inside the cold shrink, slowly. The cold shrink will collapse on the cable to form a layer.

The name cold shrink is a misnomer. Even manufacturers like 3M conveniently skip the cable preparation part stating that prepare the cable as per standard practice. Now what is this this standard practice? The fact is that all MV cables are prepared by using a gas torch in 90 percent of the cases. Therefore the cold technology is very much dependent on a gas torch The instructions are incomplete.

As Guest Instructed you in his message follow the Instructions very carefuly and when cutting the cable back be very careful not to make any nicks on your inner insulation. When he spoke of cleaning make sure you use very good lint free cloth and make sure that you leave no oil from fingers on the inner insulation. Its a slow process if you have never done it before so do not get in any hurry. Then have the cable hi-potted to assure of a good termination.Good Luck
