Disconnect Switches

11/18/2008 12:48 AM

As our substations are getting older; we are experiencing problems with our disconnect switches (all voltage classes and makes ranging from USCO to MEMCO). Most of these switches don't have direct replacements in this day and age. We have been bringing a new switch manufacturer to re-engineer these switches; most of the time using the old insulators and new live parts and new drive mechanism. The alignment process is tedious and it is too early to say if it will give us problems in the future. Can any one suggest a switch manufacturer who could evaluate these switches and provide us with replacement parts for their proper operation in the long run?

Tell us the kV class, or either it is MV, HV or EHV. Is this indoor or outdoor?

There are lot of things to do in modification or upgrading of the old substation. There will be no problem for outdoor. I mean, it is easy to modify but, for indoor substation?... space requirement is much needed.

In changing these DS, one have to go through proper scheduling of shut down, essential and non-essential power supply must be identify so that primary revenue will not be hampered or disrupted. You may also schedule this during annual turnaround.

You may contact the Siemens or ABB to help you in identifying the materials and equipment to be replaced prior to modifications.
