Go to Chromalox, an electric heating mfg company.

They have all the specs, tools and heating cable to offset heat loss.

Better yet call a sales engineer and have him tutor (explain) it to you. Its free.

Electric Skin Effect Heat Tracing System (SECT) is recommended if you have complex substances to be transported e.g. Liquid Sulfur where maintaining a temperature of 135 deg C is necessary.

This SECt system is developed by Chisso Engineering Co. Japan.

The biggest player in this industry is Tyco Thermal Controls

www.tycothermal.com

Represented all over the globe.

On their website you can download TraceCalc or use the TraceCalc.net application.

This piece of software calculates the heat loss for a certain pipe and selects the appropriate heating cable, calculates the current and presents a BOM.

With this TraceCalc you can do the full engineering of your electrical trace heating.

If yoy have more questions, just shoot and I will try to answer as I know a lot of the technology.

Dear Sir,

We have a tank farm with electric heat tracing on its pipes.

The contractor installed tracers but due to some problem left project , now we have to complete system but I don't know where should I install Thermostats .

Would you please let me know what pipe sections need to be protected by Thermostats.

I'll be highly appriciated if you could send me hitns by email to ava@rakfzbc.ae .

Thanks in advance.

Guys be carefull here I would recomend reading the information from all of the above and i noticed you missed a few, Nelson, and Thermon, & Drexan,

But the best information about how to do design is in IEEE-555 and IEEE-556.

be sure you can read the mechanical drawings and process flow drawings too.

As North America is just one part of the world, I would recommend the current standard IEC 60079-30-2 "Electrical resistance trace heating - Application guide for design, installation and maintenance" because it is an international standard.

Regarding your list of suppliers, www.eltherm.com may also be worth a look...

You are referring to the section applicable for potentially explosive atmospheres.

For normal industrial and commercial use refer to IEC 62395-1:2006

Another company that is Manufacture and does engineering is

eltherm Elektrowaermetechnik GmbH, Germany

www.eltherm.de

Another engineering company, where I now work is in Taipei Taiwan:

RTM Chuan-Tai R&M Ind Co., LTD

I am an engineer for Electrical Heat Tracing. If you really want a manual that can help you learn to do heat tracing design and engineering then please write me directly for my learning manual that I have been working on for over 6 Years. You can eMail me at my private address:
