Wind Turbine Generator

11/20/2008 11:57 PM

Dear all,

Please anybody have a great experience in a wind turbine generator? due to the present situation with my natural gas generator power provider compounded with a very high operation cost in diesel generator, I am looking at feasibility of introducing the wind turbine generator, and I am keen to know the following before making a recommendation with my Directors;

1. Estimated cost : (Equipment & installation complete)

2. Operating and maintenance cost: (monthly if required any)

3. Reliability: (I know all of the manufacturers will say their brand is very reliable as part of marketing strategy but if any body have actual encountered by their own)

4. Your positive and constructive comments and advise that can give me more picture and information is highly appreciated, I have gone and read about from different website like, Siemens, GE etc, but still want to find more base on your actual experience.

My capacity requirement is 1 megawatt. I am sited at Bazaruto Island, Mozambique.

Any of our member in the near vicinity (South Africa) that knows any contractor doing this kind of installation please send me information or email add.

Calling the attention of my idol Sparky, please have your brilliant idea and contribution on this highly appreciated.

Many thanks and kind regards

Roman

Wind turbines are very reliable as long as you have two or three of the blow hards selling them standing in front of them to ensure a constant wind...

Hi Roman,

There are about ten thousand windmills covering the prairies round about me, they each have the name "Suzlon" written on them.

A farmer in the next county financed one for the city and recouped in about three years time.

I suppose it depends upon the average wind speed at about one hundred feet up from the ground where the blades spin. We have average 25mph with 55 not uncommon.

Suzlon is an India company try google them

Rule of thumb I'm familiar with is $1.00/watt capacity, so one megawatt around one million $--not sure if that is all-up or equipment only--from anecdotal observation, area west of Palm Springs, CA seems to be in constant disarray, but in part due to flaky way the farm maintenance is done [I'm told that those who manage that farm cannibalize from one to another, depending on who's coming out to look at their "investment"]--no useful data on brand reliability...

The imagies of your island tell me you will need Wind Mills with a braking system because over speed can burn out the bearings and break the wings off the mill. You can but 2000 watt wind mills from China for about 1,800.00 each + with inverters.

The best thing is to setup a business to buy them to get the wholesale cost.

Go to www.alibaba.com and setup an account with the site then you can acess bids from different wholesalers. The tower come with some but some big towers must be purchased seperatley.

Wow--500 turbines at 2000 watts each times $1800 each = $900,000 or $0.90/watt--such a deal, Murray! But will said Chinese supplier service the little beasties?

Cheaper than that the $1800 includes shipping to New Orelans. That was my price for 2.

Dear ALL,

Thanks for all of your response on the forum thread that I posted, dad5wboys, I got that quotation from Alibaba.com and we are now in the process of clarification on some issues, such as listed queries on the above. they quote me USD 1,500,000.00 for 780kW unit and installed including shipping and testing commissioning and staff training. if I look at the investment roughly estimated ROI should be 18 to 24 months.

Kind regards

I waned to sugggest that you paint the blades on the wind mill so the birds could see the blades. The Propeller will spin so fast that birds can't see them if they are the colors white or blue.

I have been watching to research from anywhere that will limit the bird kills. One guy placed a speaker on his and plays a loop recording of a Hawk and Eagle screams.

Hope this helps.
