US Population Tops 300 Million

Yep... I have a thought: If couples is the US keeping having more than two kids a piece then eventually we will have to stop paying farmers to NOT grow food.

Seriously though, since populations grow closer to exponentially than linearly it eventually will become a very serious issue, for the entire planet. Populations in China have already neared a critical mass and, as a result, the government imposes a severely-heavy penalty tax for any couple that has more than one child.

I am personal friends with one a couple from China and they've been in the states now for a few years and have just had their 3rd child. Over dinner one night the conversation turned to this issue and they said that they will have a very hard time returning to China because there is no way they could ever afford the tax on their children now.

Sure, it sounds like a rather extreme measure but in the next hundred years, I foresee quite a few more countries adopting similar measures of population control.

There's just only so much room, you know? I mean, I doubt will ever get to the point where we seriously entertain Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal" but some type of control measures will be needed in the future.

And predicted to hit 400m in another 40 years or so.
