It's usually done with specialized pipe flow design software. You can use the Darcy-Weisbach equation to work it out though. Basic principle is this:

Required discharge flow per sprinkler head X total number of sprinkler heads on all levels of building = minimum required volumetric flow rate.

Required service pressure for 1 sprinkler head + total pressure losses in pipelines and fittings + total vertical height of pipes = required pressure head.

sulemanie,

These calculations should be done by someone who is familiar with the process or at least checked by someone who has done this professionally. A fire-fighting system must be designed properly. The results of an improper design can be deadly. I would recommend that you seek paid professional guidance with this endeavour.

I too am a hydraulic engineer, however fire fighting system are a highly specialized field and the consequences of an error are a bit deadlier than in other areas. I would still recommend seekingthe services of someone who specializes in this field.

The information you need is in NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Standards 13 and 14. Dubai will recognize this standard and accept it. Get information on buying copies at www.NFPA.org.

Dear sir,

there r two methods of fire automatic sprinkler calculations

1 the fully hydraulic calculations clear with example in NFPA 13

2 the precalculated method in the LPC code which is easier and more simple
