11/27/2008 2:06 AM

Hi,

I have a Compaq 2500 laptop and recently i found one of the fan at the rear side not running even at max Load. Two fans at the bottom are running properly. I removed the fan from the laptop and I checked with Battry and it is working fine. please let me know how to rectify this problems.

The fan may not come on until a high temp is sensed. High load does not always mean immediate high temp. Get an infrared temp sensor gun to measure laptop temp as it comes onto full load and leave it running and see if temp continues to climb. If temp climbs and stabilizes then 3 fans may be enough. Find out what the max operating temp is and measure to see if you are approaching that level.

If you are still not satisfied swap the fan with one that is running and see if the pattern continues.

You are right to be concerned because high heat will shorten the life of your electronics, but you need actual temp measurements to make a proper evaluation.

You can download free CPU temperature monitors like speedfan & many others.
