Solder Pads Minimum Size

10/18/2006 10:25 AM

I'm working with my design team to manufacture a new microphone that will have a diameter of 4 mm. The smallest we had was 6 mm with a 1.4mm x 2mm area. Obviously there is a + and a -. The question is, without affecting manufacturability (soldering reliability) what is the minimum we can go without affecting soldering and reliability?

Hi If you go to wire bonding with Gold wire you can reduce your bonding pads down to 50 microns so I don't see any reason why you couldn't start making microphones smaller than 1 mm.
