Ventillation while using split air conditioners

11/29/2008 4:52 AM

As I understand, a split a/c does not have provision for any ventillation - unless some other extra provision for ventillation is provided for the room.

Now my question is: Has some improved split a/c units come in the market with in-built capability of ventillation ?

Mini-Split or Ductless Air Conditioners
Like central air conditioners these units have a split design but use air ducts making the units easier as less expensive to install than central air conditioning. The mini-split has at lease one unit that sits inside and that is the air handler. The compressor sits outside of the home and air handler sits inside the home. Some models come with multiple air handlers that will use one compressor.

It depends on the application. They make something called a thru-the-wall unit, or a PAC (Packaged air conditioning unit). Which can incorporate a fresh air intake. But these units are mostly used in motels. They work a lot like an old window AC unit. They work really well but they are pretty ugly.

Oh and I saw someone mention Diakon, stay away from them unless you have deep pockets. They are very very expensive. Both the equipment cost and the installation cost. I just bid one of those systems and it was for 57 FCU's and the equipment cost was $685,000.00, thats almost 3 times what a standard HP system would have been. And the piping is very complicated, I bet we had 4 times a much labor as we would have in a standard line-set refrigerant piping system.

That's PTAC, guy. The T stands for "terminal". ANY unit that's self-contained is also a package unit.
