Take commercial two-component polyurethane or epoxy systems for production of solid ( non-flexible) and non-porous final plastics. Mix two components and pore into the mold. Within 1 min or so the liquid mixture will cure to solid plastic. Both plastics (polyurethane and epoxy)have rather high temperature of decomposition, higher than 150C.

In additions to epoxies, do a search for two part acrylics, polyester resins, and vinylester resins.

Have you thought of using Plastic Steel Liquid. Devcon is the name.

Axson makes a 2 part Polyurethane Resin system that can be used to make prototype forming dies for large and small metal stampings. They are great for low volume runs. They hold up well in high tonnage presses and are great for making around 1,000 piece runs. It can be machined and refilled and machined again for quick changes or repairs. Check out their website.

Amazing! I never would have guessed a plastic could be used in that application. With a cad drawing, a 3D printer, a simple mold from the positive, and the polyurethane, one could go from concept to die in not much more than a day!

We are currently capable of going from 3-D data to steel tooling cut from that data within 2 days. In emergency situations, we can have parts made in 1-2 days with steel tools. We order A-36 hot roll plate palsma cut to our block size and get it next day, up to 16" thick, 96" x 105", Naturally tools that large might take 2 days to cut. We find that this route is cheaper than Kirksite dies and we don't have so much capital tied up in the material with kirksite being $1.80 per pound including pour charge and the A-36 being $0.50 per pound. Plus if the job increases in volume we can carburize the A-36 and it will last for thousands of parts without wearing out.

One thing I would want to know is how strong of a "hit" are you talking about? There's a big difference between hitting something with your hand and hitting it with a sledgehammer, for instance.
