Polarized Connectors

12/03/2008 12:43 PM

I have been looking all over for a simple connector, that all of you have seen a thousand times

I had some sent to us for a solar panel project, and they worked great to interconnect the panels. But I just can not seem to find any that are like them. I can find all sorts of light duty ones. 16ga etc.

The ones I got and now need are like 2 feet or so in length,, and HEAVY wire. 14 Min 12 preferable.

Obviously they were made, because I have 4 sets of them in use now. But online all I can find is short length and light ga wire versions.

Actually any type of cheap polarized connector semi weather resistant will work.

suggestions?

Thanks

NSS,

I posted my answer below in another section where you asked this same question. I'm re-posting it here because A) the source I found seemed a little dicey and I hoped others can find a better-known alternate & B) just in case you happened to miss it.

------------

I can't vouch for the source (and I'm looking for a better one) but here's a place that at least carries some 12 gauge ones:

A Connector that I would like to suggest is the GM (General Motors) Weather Pak connector. These are used on all GM automobiles and in all forms of automotive racing do to thire durablity and reliability. They are available in single through six pin configurations and 18 through 12 gauge pin sizes. These also have silicone rubber seals and locking lugs to maintain their integrity. You can find these at all NAPA automotive parts stores and many racing supply stores. They are also available at all GM parts departments. I use these frequently and for extra reliability I crimp and solder each pin. These are suitable for most all weather conditions without any help but you may want to add electrical insulation past before connecting this would make for an extra failsafe. J.Conway

Looks like Drone 601 has ID'd your connector type:

... while J. Conway has found what could be a better alternative with the Weather Pack jobs:

JohnDG Excellent. Thanks for finding some visuals for they are far better than any script I could write. These have been the handiest items I have ever kept in my take everywhere box. These are install and forget connectors unlike so many others. J.Conway

Minn Kota, the electric outboard motor people sell a 10 ga version of these connectors. They're usually available at West Marine stores though a bit high in price there. Text following is from the Minn Kota web site.:

Trolling Motor Quick Connect
(MKR-12)
* Designed for wiring trolling motors where a plug and socket cannot be used

* Heavy-duty 10-gauge connectors
