Is Pelletizing the Answer?

12/05/2008 3:06 PM

I would need to cut cost of transporting Rice Hull from Source to Market. Consider: (Q1) What could be the additional Volume/Weight (given the same Full Container Load - 20' or 40' container van) - if Rice Hull were to be pelletized?; (Q2) What could be the additional Volume/Weight - if cargo were pelletized "Carbonized" Rice Hull (CRH) instead of "Raw" Rice Hull?; (Q3) Where could I lease a Pelletizing Machine for relocation to Philippine Operations?; (Q4) Is Pelletizing the best option - given my case above?

By "Pelletizing" I mean to transform loose Rice Hull into "Concentrated Ore" - as what Feedmills do with Feed Mash.

Oh, OK, I think it sounds like a good idea. Here, wood pellet stoves are big now. Perhaps you could do some research, as the pellets are made from sawdust.

Rice hulls are VERY abrasive since they contain a lot of silica. One method of manufacturing high purity ,high surface area silica is to 'burn rice hulls.'

On ewill have to add some kind of 'binder' to the rice hulls in order to form a 'pellet' that would survive and not quickly disintegrate.
