Using Personal Computers as Telephones

12/10/2008 7:02 AM

Hello there I want to use my personal computer as a telephone to communicate with a mobile phone in the GSM network to exchange voice video and text messages, so what are the peripherals i have to purchase for providing my computer with this capabilities.

I also want to purchase a PDA ( personal digital assistant ) with integrated GPS // with GSM cpabilities // enough memory space // better processor speed // and colour screen with better resolution and enough screen size running a window CE opearting system. I designed the software and i want to install it on the PDA

So please forward any comments and give me the product name with the costs

The most obvious answer to this question is to use a 3G access point in the computer to gain internet access via mobile phones network. If within a hot spot with wi-fi internet access, you may switch to direct access.

Software to accomplish? Have you heard about skype, for example? Plug some earphones and micro, and you can have also telecom with a camera. It's been available for some years already...

About pdas, the gain you have with them is that they're always connected, and have basically all you need. You don't need extra software for them.

After all I think I really did not understand your question. All you've talked about is already available.

I've looked at Skype, but I'm still unclear on what sort of internet connection is needed--where I am the least costly available is a dial-up, no DSL and a cable modem is not worth to me what they want to charge--I like the idea of using my computer and still answering calls, but could this be done with a 56k modem and the slow bit-exchange of a dial-up connection? It's probably cheaper for me to get a TracPhone cellular, but I'm a cheap-ass bastard litle chimp!
