Brushless Motor Controller

12/23/2008 8:50 AM

I am on the lookout for a simple driver for my brushless motor which i managed to extract from an old dvd drive. I would not like to employ sensors in the circuit. Can anyone help me with the issue? Thanks in advance.

What you need is an ESC electronlc speed controller but I dont know how you could rig it up outside a radio control environment

Yes ESC is the best approach but i think they are very specific to outrunner specs and cant be used for drive motors. Also they employ feedback circuits which i dont want for simplicity. Like stepper motors which are driven by PWM scheme, i was wondering whether the same technique could be employed here may be using a couple of 555's (or similar 'switchers' driven in a particular phase sequence). Is it possible?

Yes but a lot of people are stripping DVD players for the motors which i think are outrunners in the main and using them in model aircraft. This seems to be the latest chat on model aircraft websites. There are only three connections to the model aircraft reciever to be made and a fourth being the standard RC plug to the thottle socket on the reciever.

hope this is of use
