Pneumatic cam timer driven by small air motor

10/28/2006 10:43 AM

Timers using a rotating cam shaft to operate pneumatic micro switches are quite common but are all driven by small electric motors of various voltages via a mini gear-box.

I want to avoid electrical devices completely and therefore looking for a cam timer that is driven by an air motor.

Or a simple air motor - a paddle wheel type - that can be adapted.

Low cost as well please.

inspect the cam ones and buy one where you can change the electric motor for the air ne.

Quite often the electric ones use slow clock motors, but there must be fast cycle ones out there as well.

An reciprocating motor using an little air cilinder - linear actuator - and one way roller bearing for convert linear motion in rotary. Each cilinder stroke turn the shaft to the next step. Can use 5/2 mechanical activated pneumatic valve and have a locomotive steam type motor. Air supply can be restricted for slow down.

Why not do away with the rotating cam etc. of an electically driven timer and do it all with pneumatics. A cylinder with a proper throtelled orifice on the exhaust could give the slow steady motion for actuating the pneumatic switches after the proper elapsed time.

Thanks for the tips. Piston type need limit switches and 5/2 valves are too costly, and orifice speed control too erratic/unreliable (drift). I only want a 6 minute cycle. 3 mins on and 3 mins off.

Does anyone know of a clockwork timer device that has an actuator output device that can be 'wound' up by an external actuator.

Hello, earlier you were asking about a timer powered by a small pneumatic motor, Domnick Hunter makes an air dryer which has just such a small air driven timer,

www.domnickhunter.com

hope this helps.
