Lego mindstorm

01/13/2009 12:39 PM

Hi

Anyone familiar with Lego Mindstorm. I have been given several boxes with USB towers and controllers but no software. Tried robolab demo but couldn`t get it to see the usb device. Drivers say everything is ok do I need a serial to usb converter. Its looking for comm1 in the old serial sense it seems before the days of USB. Is the software worth buying?

I think you can download the software for whichever version of Mindstorm directly from Leggo.

If I remember correctly, Lego does have full support for getting the mindstorms going. Of course this was two years ago when I was messing around with Legos all the time. We were using them for engineering class projects.

What are USB towers? I bought my son the Lego Mindstorm Robot from Target and we are just getting started with it. Sounds like your Robot is much more complex.

I finally solved my problem. One of the boxes had "software inside" on it. Its the Lego programming software. I did however find another site and program language called "Not quite C" NQC looks really good but its text based as opposed to picture based. The USB Tower is an Infra Red link to the robot controller which forms part of the vehicle you build. It includes motors and sensors etc and works well.

Thanks for replying.
