01/21/2009 1:08 AM

why in new div.2 (2007) Moment of inertia is added in flange design?

why piping loads and extra loading is considered in operating moment of the flange design of div2 ED 2007

In very simple terms -

  1. Because flanges are analyzed similar to beams (which require moment of inertia)
  2. See above; and other loads have a direct influence on flanges (think of a beam with loads)
