Painting

I do not have any knowledge on the painting and I appreciate if someone can educate on application of paint including type of paint to be applied on the used machinery such as gears, gearboxes etc.

I would keep paint off of gears. It would get worn off anyway.

The painting on used machinery is very tricky

The paints normally have a compatibility problem , so as such you are not supposed to overcoat with a new paint, unless you know the paint that has been used.

Also the paint that is already applied may not be in overcoatable condition- the paints, despite the manufactureres claim, degrade over time and lose properties.

In gear box internals - tha painting is usually carried out in un machined surfaces.

The painting is not mandatory (since these are anyway bound to have sufficient oil inside and these are likely to preserve the surfaces against corrosion).

In case you want to still paint - strip off all the existing paint, prepare the surface anew, to required roughness - usually sa2.5 to sa3

painting may be done with suitable oil resistant paint- say crank case or epoxy - we prefer miilk white paint in our gear boxes since that shows up agaist contamination and gives a good reflective surface during inspection.
